Strengths: - User friendly- Get the job done- Fast

Weaknesses: - Unreliable- Scheduling is useless

Overall Evaluation: I've been using Norton Ghost for a long time, and I was never happy with the program. After some search, I found that Acronis True Image is reviewed quite favorably. So, I gave it a try. This is much better than Ghost. It has a better user interface, more intuitive, and faster. I cloned a 200GB laptop drive to a 320GB, and the operation went without any major problem. However, when I tried to clone another drive (250GB), the operation failed. I was forced to reinstall the software and had to start the whole process again. A good news is that it worked at the second try. Overall, this is not a bad software. It gets the job done, and is much better than the competition (Ghost).

Strengths: imaging and back up capabilities

Weaknesses: was a little glitchy with Vista but so far nothing that affects the imaging of the computer.

Overall Evaluation: This product is great if your looking for a software that will back up certain files or if you would like a complete image of your computer for restoring purposes. It's easy to use and think its better than Norton Ghost. Remember, depending on how much data you have on your hard drive you might need a pretty big external drive to back up the compressed image of your computer. But trust me I've already had a catastrophe with my laptop and lost the harddrive. Thanks to the image I saved the previous week I was able to restore my computer as if nothing had happened. It's an essential tool but you must use it regularly to keep the most updated back up.

Strengths: easy to use interface; full, differential, or incremental backups

Weaknesses: "specific file" feature may not include all your applications

Overall Evaluation: I used to use Drive Image 7 (DI7) and bought it in 2003. It's a good program but Norton bought them and doesn't support that program anymore. DI7 worked well for me to do full HD backups and restores (it saved me at least twice before). However, when my HD crashed a few weeks ago, I tried to do a restore using DI7 but I received errors and it wouldn't restore! Since I cannot find any support anywhere, restoring with DI7 was not an option. So I thought about getting an updated image backup and restore program. BTW, though I was not able to do a full restore, I was able to access the crashed drive (as a slave drive) and extract my files before it died! So which image backup program to get? I read bad reviews about Norton Ghost and Norton software in general. So I stayed away from them. However, I heard better things about Acronis True Image. Also my friend recommended it. So I bought this program on sale at CompUSA. I was looking for something with an easy interface, provides scheduled or unattended backups, has incremental backups, and easy restore options. This program fit the bill. The interface is easy to use. You can schedule your backup tasks and frequency. You can also choose your options on compression levels. Of course, the more compression the longer the program takes. This program can do incremental backups too but you must do one full backup first. This version also has a "specific file" backup feature. This basically allows you to backup ONLY the file types you specify. For example, backup ONLY digital pics (jpg), Excel (xls), and (Word) doc files. To me, I didn't find this too useful, since I prefer to back up the whole HD (or incremental backups). Plus the selection of applications is limited to what Acronis provides, which are the popular file formats and extensions. If you want to back up ONLY your Sony Vegas VEG (extension) project files for example, you are out of luck.Restoring: I have not done a restore yet since I have not crashed. However, I did do a TEST restore. I booted from the TI cd and started the restore process. I was able to boot and explore the archive. At this point I didn't restore since I had no restore drive, but it looks like it will work if and when the time comes. There are other new features (like acronis secure zone and quick backup) that I have not to use yet. So overall, this is a great program for HD image backups and restores. Just make sure you do backups at least once a week.

Strengths: Ease of use, features, price was right.

Weaknesses: Think it could be a bit more easy to use for those of us who have not dealt with this type of software.

Overall Evaluation: I have used this on 3 computers, and it's been a life saver. Easy to use and restore data, as at first I had no idea what I was doing. Backing up to my external hard drive seems to be helpful.

Overall Evaluation: I purchased this software to transfer files and operating system from on old hard drive to a new one. Its interface is very easy to follow. It took less than half an hour and a few simple mouse clicks for the whole operation to complete. It was also very straightforward to image my hard drive as a backup. Pro: 1. Easy, simple software to do hard-drive transfer or make image 2. Reasonable price Cons: None so far

    Duration of ownership:

Strengths: One of the rare imaging products.

Weaknesses: Never seen it free after rebate.

Overall Evaluation: I had been using Ghost for years until I upgraded to Vista. Latest Ghost did not work on Vista, so I bought this. Since I had been buying Ghost free after rebate for years, it really hurt to pay for this :-).I've done backups and they were painless and easy. It has a nice user interfaces. I haven't done any restores yet, but I guess it will work fine (as far as I read from other product reviews). I'm hoping that I'll never need the restore part of this.
