Samsung ML-2551N Review

- The $600 Samsung ML-2551N is a functional-looking gray box that has plenty of features for its price. You can hook it up to a network with its built-in ethernet interface or direct to a PC via its USB 2.0 port. An optional 802.11b wireless LAN adapter costs $300.

    Duration of ownership: 2 Months

Strengths: Inexpensive cost per page and lots of features.

Weaknesses: These printers have terrible reliability and Samsung support is non existent.

Overall Evaluation: I purchased fifteen 2551n printers for our charter high school. I have six still working and this is under a very light work load across the last two years. Four have a bad motherboard and the other four will not feed. I have give instructions for no more Samsung products. Absolutely no help from them, of any kind.

    Duration of ownership:

Strengths: Beautiful output, fast, great duplexing, great price for this feature set.

Weaknesses: A bit loud. No 64-bit drivers/support. Product expired shortly after warranty.

Overall Evaluation: I brought this printer home for under $400. Everything worked very well for about 14 months when the LCD showed "Engine Fuser Error". This means the fuser needs to be replaced at a cost of about $200. According to Samsung's support site, the fuser is rated for 100,000 pages; I had printed fewer than 6,000. Granted, it is 2 months out of warranty but Samsung would not budge.I now wonder if I got what I paid for. It WAS a good price for that feature set, maybe too good. While it was working, it worked very well, now it doesn't work at all. Products that fail right after the warranty expires are unacceptable!
