If you're getting bored with your snapshots, you may want to give PhotoArtist 2 a try. PhotoArtist, now in version 2.0.4, gives you dozens of filters--like Watercolor, Acid, Fur, and more--to turn your digital images into creative artworks.
Getting started with PhotoArtist 2 is a bit of a challenge, as the interface is not very intuitive--and it hasn't changed in this new version. To work on a photo, for example, you select it from a window labeled "presets" and then click Fill; to apply filters, you select a filter, click a thumbnail in Presents, and click Fill. Luckily, the Help button links to a useful guide.
You can apply filters to an entire photo, "paint" an image onto a blank canvas, erase bits of a photo, and combine effects. PhotoArtist 2 is not a full-fledged image editor, however: You cannot combine images or perform standard functions like removing red-eye or fine-tuning color balance. The functions haven't changed in this new version, which updated some interface translations and smoothed TIFF imports.
The free trial version does not expire; instead, any image file that you save is covered in watermarks. Paying the $79 license fee removes the watermarks and gives you access to technical support.
Photo hobbyists will enjoy PhotoArtist 2, but creative pros will likely find its tools limiting.
