    Duration of ownership:

Strengths: First time user and my daughter has never had any issues with using it.

Weaknesses:None that she has complained about.

Overall Evaluation: I just cracked the program and she is quietly upset with me. She was introduced to the program in her computer class in high school. She found it easy to use and has done several projects on it for school and for her friends. Her work was entered above students that had previous experience. Her friends always open her cards first because they know she would make them something on photoworks, using photos of her and them. She has made invitations, scrapbook pages, speciality cards, flyers, edited photos, calenders,T Shirts, etc. She just finished a project for our family reunion. Nothing technical here, just a high schooler with no previous experience with anything other than Corel who turns out beautiful work using this program. This is actually a replacement order today. I just broke her program and she is quietly upset with me. She actually cried because she was getting ready to make a birthday card for her best friend and she knows everyone will be waiting to see her card.

    Duration of ownership: 2 Weeks

Strengths: A lot of different tools to totally handle the digital photography experiance.

Weaknesses:Some of the tools have a long learning curve. I can be hard to find tools I am familiar with from prvious versions.

Overall Evaluation: I have used this product for about 2 weeks now. I have been an Elements (previous versions) for years. While, it still has the great edit tools (the main reason I bought the product) it has additional tools that are nothing less than wonderful. The tool I have been using the most is the Photo Browser. For the first time, I am able to categorize photographs, on the fly and put them into any one of several pre-designed or custom designed categories. I am trying to track well over 20,000 digital photographs and this makes it a breeze. Now, I can find pictures of Uncle Charlie regardless where they where or when they were taken. I can even get down to "Uncle Charlie at Joan and Bert's 35th wedding anniversary party." And there is only one copy of each photo. I love it. On the installation, you have to be carful to sellect which file types you want Elements 3.0 to be the default program. You can select specifically the file types. I use ACD See to view programs so I had to make sure Elements did not take control of that feathure. But that is the same when you install most graphic programs.

Strengths: Fast start up. Quick image editor, many useful tools

Weaknesses:Large program over 200 megs. Becomes image default viewer for computer. Don't need all of the bells and whistles.

Overall Evaluation: You can't of course just upgrade to Adobe's Photoshop Elements 3.0. You have to re purchase the entire program. I have purchased 1.0, and now have 2.0 and 3.0 installed. You can qualify for a rebate of $20.00, WOW. The working canvas area is a bit crowded and it gets confusing. There is a lot going on with images. You have a "file browser". File organizer. This program is for more advance users. The first time user might get intimated by all of the interface options. What I like best is the "quick fix options". The program gets it right most of the time. Since color correction is not an exact science, this will help most digital photograhers. I do miss the fancy word art options that 2.0 had. The "crop shape" tool is probably not necessary. The other vector shape objects are very helpful. This is where I would have hoped the Adobe would have focused on developing further. The healing brush, and spot healing brush are useful. Improved "red eye removal" is excellent. I like and use the effects and styles palette. The camera raw option is overdue for serious digital photographers. On my system the crop tool gets a little buggy. The images in second or third windows tend to be too large. I have to resize just to see my workspace. I don't use or need the photomail, or photo organizer. Actually is a big pain. You can't install this program without it. It becomes the computer image browser, opening up photoshop elements each time you want to view an image or clip art. There should have been a customize option to leave that portion out. Some how this program trys to do too much too soon. It should instead focus on image editing and printing. I have and used "Photoshop CS". But sometimes I get lazy and just want to point and click and edit photos on the fly. Photoshop Elements 3.0 is a good product that trys to please everyone.
